“Beam Me Up” is especially impressive because motion tracking around not only real-world environments, but around choreography is almost impossible. So for the AI members Seung and Saejin to look like they belong in the environment is so ridiculously impressive. Not to mention the character animation on their facial expressions and bodies is so detailed – I have no idea what the rigs could possibly look like.
Oh, I haven’t forgotten about the human members! Daemon, Eugene, SiO, JDV, and Geon are all multitalented individuals, and it shows in their range both vocally and physically. I wish them nothing but the best in their future endeavors, but make no mistake, all of the bones for something great were there.
The fact that DeepStudio focused so heavily on Seung and Saejin when the emphasis should have been laced on the other members (and was placed on them in “MOODY”) is immensely frustrating because, while it shows “vision,” it shows vision about the wrong thing. SUPERKIND shouldn’t have been a group used to promote a VFX studio, it should have been a group used to promote a production studio – because their videos were at their best when it wasn’t the VFX at the center, but the story overall.
